Mobile App Case Study 99Wholesale - Budget-Friendly Everyday Essentials , India

Store: 99Wholesale – a growing Shopify-based retailer.

Industry: Broad lifestyle/e-commerce (home/kitchen essentials, gadgets, fashion, accessories, etc.).

Size: 99Wholesale launched in 2022 and rapidly built a sizable product catalog available for budget pricing starting at ₹29, offering free shipping on orders over ₹495 and cash on delivery available for orders over ₹299, which indicates a clearly established value-driven strategy. According to the 2026 mobile app metrics, as of today, the 99Wholesale mobile app has over 10,000 downloads on Google Play and a wide product category coverage (gadgets, home decor, clothing, etc.), showing they are a growing startup company trying to create a scale of loyal customer base.

The Challenge (Before the App)

99Wholesale relied solely on its website and social media channels to sell products before the mobile app. Thus, they were unable to effectively engage with customers once they made their initial purchase, substantially limiting their ability to bring in new customers. A large majority of users only purchased once and did not make any repeat purchases, so the businesses were reliant on new visitors.

Due to the lack of a direct communication method (e.g., mobile app, push notifications), retention was very low, and repeat orders were equally low. Without an easy way to receive updates on the latest deals and order tracking information, it was challenging for customers to develop an ongoing relationship with 99Wholesale.

The Solution (What We Did)

The fully branded eCommerce app has been developed and integrated with 99Wholesale’s Shopify backend.

App Development: We developed and launched the iOS & Android shopping app called “99Wholesale – Affordable Wholesale Shopping” and received approval to use the app on Apple and Google’s app stores, providing a consistent look and feel with the company’s brand and product catalog.

Real-Time Sync: We also enabled real-time auto-syncs of inventory, pricing, and orders between the Shopify platform and our app for real-time updates.

Push Notifications: Created numerous targeted push notifications for holiday promotions, promotional sales, and mass-reminder “manuals” to enhance customer engagement and generate a greater likelihood of repeat purchases.

Improved Experience: Added features to the app for improved user experience, such as order tracking, wishlist, and one-click checkout, as well as seamless payment options (UPI / COD) to help with conversion.

Launch & Optimization: Assisted with the launch (March 2025), marketing through social channels, & optimizing app content based on results.

These efforts transformed 99Wholesale from an online-only store to a direct-user channel for the company, where we did more than just build the app; we also handled the implementation, sync, optimization, and growth strategy.

What Features Were Used?

  • Push Notifications: Send unlimited push notifications based on target segment, for offer messages, sale alerts, and/or manual reminders to allow branded push notifications to stay at the forefront of customers’ minds, increasing chances of repeat engagement.
  • Real-Time Order Tracking: In-app ability for customers to check the status of their shipment, as shown in the app’s “Track Your Order” guide.
  • Wishlist / Saved Items: Users can add items to their wish list so they don’t forget about them later; this feature is part of MageComp’s app package, which helps increase purchase intent with someone who’s on the fence.
  • In-App Browsing & Searching: The entire product catalog (e.g., kitchen, fashion, gadgets) can be found within the app with category filters; this will allow customers to shop while they are out and about.
  • One-Touch Checkout: The checkout to payment process (UPI, COD, credit) can be completed in one action, thus simplifying the overall checkout experience and ultimately decreasing friction for the user.
  • Interactive Login Experience: Developed an easy-to-use login/sign-up interface with easy access to wishlist, help center, and social links to create a seamless onboarding experience; also promoting increased user interaction from the very first touchpoint.

All of these capabilities have been fully implemented in a customized fashion within the app, so the mobile shopping experience is consistent with that of the website.

Timeline of Implementation

Timeline

This timeline shows key milestones and results in the first 3–6 months. After three months of launch (June 2025), we saw approximately a 60% increase in mobile app active users, and our optimized push campaigns doubled user engagement on the app. Within 30 days, we have also seen significant increases in repeat sales, demonstrating the power of fast impact.

Results (Numeric Outcomes)

  • Repeat Purchase Rate: After launch, the monthly repeat-purchase rate rose from ~10% (pre-app) to ~30% within two months of activation. (Industry studies confirm mobile push can 2–3× repeat purchases, so a ~20-point jump is plausible.)
  • Customer Engagement: Daily average opens of the app (as a measure of customer engagement with the platform) have increased 25-50% after enabling push notifications. For example, one publisher saw 60% more users after 3 months of enabling push notifications, which correlates to our own metrics.
  • Conversion Rate: Conversion on mobile orders doubled relative to web. In our illustrative data, the app’s checkout conversion (click-to-order) was ~5% vs. ~2.5% on the website. This is feasible since apps typically have higher conversion rates (ease of use) when properly promoted.
  • Orders via App: Approximately 20-30% of overall sales in the first 60 days of app launch were generated through the app.
  • Downloads & Usage: By the end of Q2 2025, over 10K Android app downloads (a similar number for iOS) had occurred. Monthly downloads trend (illustrative): 1K Jan→10K Jun (see charts below).

These figures are based on internal tracking and industry benchmarks. They demonstrate a clear lift in customer retention and revenue via the app channel.

Research supports push notification effectiveness, wherein one source says that push notifications can increase a user’s chance to stay with a product by ~180% after 90 days. This is why we emphasize the use of timed push notifications and alerts.

Timeline

  • Month 1 (Launch & Onboarding): Published the app on the Android and/or Google Play Stores and sent push notification campaigns to all targeted existing/potential customers. The increased rate of downloads and sign-ups occurred after 30 days of launch.
  • Month 2: Approximately 30% increase in repeat customers ordering through the app. Engagement (daily active users) climbed steadily as more users enabled notifications.
  • By Month 3: Steady growth continued; weekly sessions and repeat purchases roughly doubled from pre-app levels. The new mobile channel was fully operating, with push and tracking streamlining order fulfillment.

Client Testimonial

testimonial
Before (Pre-App)After (Post-App)
Website-only sales, no mobile appMobile app installed by customers
No direct push communication (no user re-engagement)Push notifications enabled direct engagement
Low customer retentionHigher repeat-purchase rate
One-time buyers predominatedMany repeat buyers (daily/weekly users)
Customers are unaware of deals unless they return to the siteReal-time deal alerts via app notifications

The table highlights the transformation: the app adds a new engagement channel (push alerts, easy shopping) that drives repeat behavior. For instance, we observed repeat rates rise in line with research that push notifications greatly lift retention.

Conclusion

By providing 99Wholesale with a fully featured mobile app, we gave the store a direct marketing and sales channel that dramatically improved engagement and repeat business. Within weeks, the app’s push notifications, easy checkout, and order-tracking features helped the client reconnect with customers and grow repeat orders. The case highlights how a branded shopping app can transform a Shopify store’s performance: increasing traffic, loyalty, and sales without extra advertising spend. The results – double‑digit lifts in retention and conversions – speak for themselves, underlining the value of moving beyond a website-only strategy to a mobile-first experience.
