Magento 2.4.8 version has just been released, and we are here with an overview of what is new with the latest version release.
Ever since the marketplace debut of Magento in 2008, it has undergone enormous growth and maturation that has sealed its place as the e-commerce platform leader. A major development in this journey was the acquisition by Adobe, which opened new doors of capacity and technology development for the product.
Magento has continued to be built on itself through back-to-back feature updates, with the obvious intention of enhancing the ease of adherence and efficiency of online commerce. These updates have provided a plethora of amenities to support organizations in developing fully customizable, elongated e-commerce stores.
Some of these updates include new, updated inventory management tools, improved aspects of the user interface, and specifications regarding the workings of analytics.
The Magento version’s purpose is to enhance the experience of executing e-commerce businesses so that merchants do not struggle while managing their businesses online while providing an exciting shopping experience and potential for growth in a dynamic eCommerce space.
Types of Magento Releases
While all versions of Magento will undoubtedly introduce some new features, some releases are much more significant and, therefore, will require urgent attention.
- Major releases – are the significant changes that include new features to Magento 2. In a major release, the second number in the version changes (e.g., 2.3 to 2.4), and system requirements may be updated.
- Minor releases – are smaller updates that significantly enhance specific performance and print fixes for several issues. A minor release changes just the last digit – for example (2.4.2 to 2.4.3).
- Beta version releases – A beta version is generally not released to the public but is available to help developers see specific aspects of code and components that need time for internal review. Beta versions can include Major and Minor releases.
- Security patch releases – Security patches provide a release after the discovery of parameter security issues, which are aimed at closing specific vulnerabilities. Security patches add ‘-p#’ after the release number (e.g. 2.4.5-p1).
- Quality patch releases – Quality patches only significantly improve the quality of the system overall and improve user experience, including accessibility and data privacy compliance.
