Magento 2: How To Redirect 404 Page Found To Search Page

Hello MageComp Readers?,

In this tutorial, I will help you to Redirect 404 Page? Found To Search Page? that is a continuation of the blog How to Create Custom 404 Page in Magento 2 illustrated by my friend Gaurav Jain. Let’s Get Started?

Introduction:

Basically, when any route is not found then by default Magento redirects to the 404 pages. But as we know the characteristics of Magento it allows customization and Magento 2 merchants can add their custom noRoute handler. Like the 404 pages as a no-route page, you can redirect it to a search page.

Steps to Redirect 404? Page Found To Search Page?:

Step 1: Firstly, you will require to add di.xml in the below-given path:

app\code\Vendor\Extension\etc\frontend\di.xml

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<config xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="urn:magento:framework:ObjectManager/etc/config.xsd">
    <type name="Magento\Framework\App\Router\NoRouteHandlerList">
        <arguments>
            <argument name="handlerClassesList" xsi:type="array">
                <item name="extension" xsi:type="array">
                    <item name="class" xsi:type="string">Vendor\Extension\App\Router\NoRouteHandler</item>
                    <item name="sortOrder" xsi:type="string">80</item>
                </item>
            </argument>
        </arguments>
    </type>
</config>

Step 2: After that, you will require to add the NoRouteHandler.php file in the below-given path:

app\code\Vendor\Extension\App\Router\NoRouteHandler.php

<?php
namespace Vendor\Extension\App\Router;
class NoRouteHandler implements \Magento\Framework\App\Router\NoRouteHandlerInterface
{
    public function process(\Magento\Framework\App\RequestInterface $request)
    {
        $requestValue = ltrim($request->getPathInfo(), '/');
        $request->setParam('q', $requestValue);
        $request->setModuleName('catalogsearch')->setControllerName('result')->setActionName('index');
        return true;
    }
}

That’s It you have successfully  Redirected 404 Page Found To Search Page for your Magento 2 store.

    • It does work but here is incomplete as it is assuming the module is created correctly.
      In case anyone reach this point and see that this does not work take in count that a module needs to be built following Magento 2 structure, that is to say, yo need the following files:
      app\code\Vendor\Extension\etc\module.xml
      app\code\Vendor\Extension\composer.json
      app\code\Vendor\Extension\registration.php

  • Hello Diren, can you please help me with my question ? this will not become in a soft 404 error for google ? thanks,,,,
