Hello Magento pals,

Today, we are here to inform you with this article on what upgrades Magento is going to release in the year 2020. As the norm set by the Adobe owned Magento, the upgrade will be released every quarter. And as per norm, from Jan 2020, it will start to roll out new upgrades for Magento 2.3.x. Yes, in Jan 2020, Magento has already released the upgrade of the Magento 2 platform, which is Magento 2.3.4.

Read this article to know more about what’s new in Magento 2.3.4.

The pre-release date for this upgrade was set as January 14, 2020. And the GA (General Availability) date is January 28, 2020.

But Magento said that its Commerce customers will be able to access the upgrade patches two weeks advance of GA date for 2.3.x and 2.2.x patches. To know more about this, read this official release note of Magento 2.3.4 for Magento Commerce.

Now let’s get into what are the upcoming upgrades Magento will release in the year 2020.

The following table represents the full schedule of upcoming releases with their pre-release date and GA date.

Magento has all the right to change these dates at any time if required.

Magento also provides an option to fix only security issues and vulnerabilities identified in the last version upgrade. For that, you need to download a security-only patch if you don’t want to upgrade the whole package. However, upgrading the whole package is recommended by Magento for better performance and security concerns.

For Magento 2.3.3, the security patch is  available as 2.3.3.1(composer packages 2.3.3-p1). You can download this as a different package from Magento 2.3.4 using the composer.

Magento has also announced that it will release the Magento 2.4 as well in the year 2020. To know more about this upgrade, read this article.

Magento has built Some modules just to decouple them from the core release process of Magento commerce. Before releasing any of the modules, Magento releases the iterations of the module to the merchants who will be accepting a little risk by upgrading and integrating these modules with their store for getting access to these releases and new features in advance.

To know more about this, read this article on Magento devdocs.
